Hiking in Kirchberg in Tirol for AlpenParks guests

Exclusive nature experience in the Kitzbühel Alps

Kirchberg in Tirol and the neighbouring villages of Brixen and Westendorf are nestled between the breathtaking Hohe Salve and the panoramic Kitzbüheler Horn, on the sunny plateau of the Brixental at an altitude of around 800 metres. Unlike many other alpine valleys, the Brixental Valley does not end in a valley head, but is open on both sides. It connects the Inntal in the west with the Kitzbühel region in the east.

The region lends itself to hiking in Kirchberg in Tirol, from the valley floor all the way to the summit. Discover the hiking paradise of the Kitzbühel Alps with its 2,500 kilometres of trails in a whole new way – and in all its beauty.

Hiking in the fresh mountain air makes you hungry! And that's a good thing. The mountain huts of the Kitzbühel Alps gourmet region invite you to take a break with some great cuisine. Tyrolean delicacies, Gröstl, Käsespätzle or Kaiserschmarrn are a welcome reward at this fantastic excursion destination. The Kirchberg huts focus on regional and local produce. Buttermilk from their own farm, cheese from the local alpine dairy or meat from local cattle – everything is fresh and, above all, carefully prepared for you. A dedicated hut guide will show you the way through the culinary map. The gourmet hike culminates at AlpenParks Taxacher Hotel & Apartment in our restaurant and with an exquisite glass of wine at the bar.

From here we head up to the Pengelstein 1 valley station, past the Haindlbauer and onto the Issbühel. On the Aschauer Höhenweg we pass the Sporthotel and the Kälberwaldalm and reach the Hiesleggalm. A beautiful round hike with a view of the Grosser Rettenstein: The hike starts at the Spertental Kneipp facility in Aschau. From here, the path leads into the Unterer Grund. The waterfall on the right and the Falkenstein rock on the left give an insight into the beauty of its unique nature. We pass the Hintenbachalm, where the ‘Kasplatzl’ cheese dairy invites you to take a break. Then continue straight ahead on the slightly ascending path. Past the Labalm junction, we head deeper into the valley and reach the Karalm. A barrier is followed by a bridge; from here the path leads right up to the Stocker and Angereralm. Shortly before the Haglangeralm, the trail descends in serpentines to the Labalm and via the Hintenbachalm back to Aschau.

If you want to tackle this hiking trail around Kirchberg in Tirol, you must be sure-footed, experienced in the mountains and have a head for heights. Start the tour early in the morning. A very steep forest path from the Hinterbachalm leads through the forest into the Schöntalgraben and to the Schöntalalm. Continue into the beautiful high valley, past the Schöntalscherm and up to the Schöntal spring – a great place to rest before ascending the summit. You might see or hear marmots here. The route continues in serpentines and the ascent becomes difficult from here. In some places you have to hold on to the rocks. There is a short climbing section to master before the summit. Once you’re past that, you’ll reach the top of one of the highest mountains in the Kitzbühel Alps, at an altitude 2,366 m. In good weather, you can see the highest mountains in Austria, the Grossglockner and Grosvenediger, and the peaks of the Zillertal Alps. Descent via the same route.
