The toboggan run at Loser is about 7 km long and winds down the groomed family run (Run No. 13) to the Loser Ski Arena. The run is easy and suitable for families and beginner tobogganers.
Pick up your sleds at the Hagan Lodge reception desk: Kathrein sleds cost €10 per day (as of September 2026). Take the Loser Panoramabahn up to the mountain station. Separate tickets for sledders are available at the ski ticket office.
Skiing at Loser: Ski right into the resort
The Hagan Lodge is located right next to the Loser family ski area. The ski area offers 34 kilometers of slopes across an elevation range of about 1,000 meters. The Loser Panoramabahn takes you from the Skiarena valley station via the Augstalm intermediate station to the mountain station at the Loser Alm.
Children can practice at the Skikinderland on the Sandling, which features a platter lift, two magic carpets, and a ski carousel. Once they’re confident on their feet, they can ski down Styria’s longest family run. Advanced skiers will find freeride slopes above the tree line and the “Loserfenster” fun park.
Cross-Country skiing and ski touring
In Ausseerland and the Salzkammergut, there are about 200 kilometers of cross-country trails for classic and skating styles. One trail passes by the lodges toward Blaa Alm and Rettenbachtal.
Your host, Alexander Kalss, is a cross-country skier himself and knows the trails in Ausseerland firsthand. Backcountry skiers can reach peaks such as the Grießkogel or the Pleschitzzinken in about three hours.
Snowshoeing and Nordic walking
If you prefer a more peaceful experience, you can explore winter hiking trails or go snowshoeing off the slopes. You’ll find routes and tips on the pages “Snowshoeing in Ausseerland” and “Nordic Walking in Winter.”
Ice skating on lake Altaussee
As soon as the ice is thick enough, you can skate on the natural ice of Lake Altaussee or Lake Grundlsee. In cold winters, this is usually the case starting in January. Lake Altaussee is located about 4 km from the lodge. On the ice, you’ll meet locals playing curling, a fun group activity.
