Your mountain bike trip to Austria

Approximately 480 kilometres of biking tours throughout the Lungau leave nothing to be desired. The variety of options for bikers has grown exponentially in recent years. More and more mountains and summit regions have been developed for mountain bikers. Today, 18 tours and several varieties lead through the entire region. On top of it all, there’s an extreme challenge: tackling the entire Lungau by mountain bike.

  • Fanningberg-Runde: Starting and ending in sunny Mariapfarr, these fairly easy 19 kilometres lead onto the glorious mountain via asphalt and forest roads.
  • Hollerberg-Runde: This short tour with a sharp ascent from St. Michael to an altitude of 1,597 m via various gravel and forest roads is a bit trickier.
  • Preber-Runde: This 37.5 km route around Tamsweg is, quite literally, a constant up and down. Among the challenging stops around the route are the Ötzboden, Prebersee lake, Lessach, and the Turnschall ruins.
  • Lessach-Runde: About eight kilometres of constant ascent head for the Wildbachhütte. The initially very steep forest roads make the subsequent descent into a real experience.
  • Lungau EXTREM: 166.8 km provide the ultimate challenge for a mountain bike holiday in Austria: crossing almost the entire Lungau. Countless tough ascents and high-speed descents are best left to the pros.

More adventures on two wheels

The Lungau isn’t just a great destination for your next mountain bike holiday in Austria. There are many more ways to discover the sunny region around the equally sunny Mariapfarr.

  • Soft biking: Families usually like taking things a bit slower. Many relaxing cycling trips head towards public pools, museums, castles and divine natural sights.
  • E-biking: Less experienced cyclists can explore beautiful panoramic spots thank to light motorised support. The Lungau offers a dense, consistently growing network of charging stations.
  • Gravel biking: Gravel biking is becoming more and more popular. Ten gravel tours, a mix of road and mountain biking, lead through Salzburg’s Lungau.
  • Mur Cycle Path: 365 km along the river Mur lead through Styria and continue to Slovenia. This bike hiking path actually starts in the village of Muhr in the Lungau. Tackle the first stages to St. Michael and neighbouring Styria during your cycling holiday in Austria.
  • Bike rental: Are you travelling without your bike? AlpenParks guests receive a 10% discount on rental and service at Sport Pichler, only a three-minute drive from the resort.
