Classics & new alpine routes on the Hochkönig
Whether you choose a frequently climbed top route, venture on a path for individualists or explore exciting climbing terrains - climbing in Maria Alm, Saalfelden and the area around the Hochkönig is always an experience. The region is divided into sectors A to D:
- Sector A+B: South Wall & Weather Wall.
- Sector C: Mandlwände
- Sector D1: Torsäule
- Sector D2-D5: Immlauer mountains
Via ferrata around Maria Alm
A highlight is the climb to the summit of the Hochkönig, more precisely to the Franz-Eduard-Matrashaus. The well-known main ascent from the Arthurhaus in Mühlbach is 10 kilometers long and also suitable for beginners. Sure-footed and giddy climbing fans choose the alpine variant via the Teufelslöcher.
A scenic via ferrata to the Selbhorn, the highest peak of the Steinernes Meer, begins in Krallerwinkl. Approximately six hours and just under 12 kilometers later, you will have reached the highest point at 2,655 meters.
Hardy people dare the difficult but spectacular Königsjodler Klettersteig. This trail, peppered with narrow passages and gorges, takes you along the ridge edge to the Teufelshörnen, the Kummetstein and the Hoher Kopf. Wonderful views and the feeling of having overcome your own limits are on top.

Indoor-playground: climbing hall in Saalfelden
You still need some dry practice until you can go climbing in the wild? Then the Felsenfest climbing gym in Saalfelden is your perfect training ground. 1,700 square meters of climbing space with an outdoor lead climbing area and an outdoor bouldering wall await you there. That means 250 lead climbing routes and 150 bouldering routes. Centrally located at one of the main traffic hubs of the Pinzgau and only 6 kilometers away from AlpenParks Maria Alm, the climbing hall in Saalfelden is thus the best indoor playground for learning and practicing.
