Did you know? Since spring 2020 there is the new long distance hiking trail 'Iseltrail' in East Tyrol. The trail starts in the Dolomite town of Lienz and covers a total length of 74.19 kilometres and a total of 2169 metres of altitude difference uphill. The Iseltrail is divided into 12 individually selectable sections and can therefore be walked in a variety of ways.

Special locations such as the Great Isel Gorge near Bobojach, the "Virgen Wilderness" or the Gloss Gorge can be explored. We are happy to advise you.

1000 kilometres, divided into 120 marked mountain bike routes, start right from AlpenParks Hotel Matrei. On the superb cycle paths along the Isel and the Drau, or steep uphill, then downhill through the landscape between the Großglockner and the Dolomites, which is beyond compare, everyone will find what they are looking for here, no matter what level they are at. Sunshine included - thanks to the Alpine main ridge which lies in a south-facing position. With the hotel's own E-Bike hire and depending upon availability, you can investigate the natural surroundings at a leisurely pace, or cycle to Lienz without even breaking into a sweat.


AlpenParks Hotel Montana Matrei is really close to the new 'Tauernstadion Matrei' – the best starting point for a football training camp and more! The impressive stadium which has natural and artificial pitches, as well as floodlit facilities, is conveniently located for transport facilities on the edge of the town and just a few minutes walk from the hotel. The artificial pitch next to the main playing fields is particularly sought after, since it provides the best possible use, since it can be used on even when there is rain and snow. Footballers from Salzburg, Tirol and Carinthia come to train in Matrei in Osttirol just because of the artificial pitch.

Outdoor Sport

The wild water, straight from the glaciers in Hohe Tauern National Park, provides a variety of difficulty levels. Every year between 15th May and 30th September kayakking and rafting enthusiasts can get the ultimate kick here. You can go rafting no matter what the weather, and even when the weather is bad it provides an interesting alternative.

Großglockner Resort Kals Matrei

The over 100 km ski-runs have ideal snow conditions thanks to the high altitude. In any case there are snow-making facilities covering some 90% of the area. 16 comfortable top quality chair-lifts and cable cars take the visitor from the starting point Matrei (920 m) to the winter atmosphere of the top station of the Großglockner Resort (2.405).
