Battling for the Salzkammergut Trophy

Pure adrenaline on two wheels

Muscle strength & a dream setting for the most beautiful mountain bike trophy in Austria

Mountain bike events in the Salzkammergut: sports followed by relaxation in the chalet village

Over 210 kilometres, more than 7,000 altitude metres, tough ascents and breathtaking panoramas – these are the main ingredients of the Salzkammergut Mountain Bike Trophy. No-one could’ve expected that it would become the biggest mountain bike marathon in Austria when the event was first held in 1998.

Today, more than 20 years later, thousands of athletes from several different nations conquer the extreme route every July and fight for the best spots in the toughest single-day mountain bike race. There’s now a choice of seven different competition distances to choose from. They all have one thing in common – athletes aren’t just taken to the limit, they also range through the unique UNESCO World Heritage region of Hallstatt-Dachstein-Salzkammergut. One-of-a-kind views of the Dachstein with its glaciers, the Ewige Wand mountain, Lake Gosausee, Hallstätter See or the Waldbachstrub waterfall – this cycling event has lots of highlights to offer.

Salzkammergut Trophy Individual – biking in the time of corona

The coronavirus nixed this year’s summer event. However, the organisers showed their inventiveness and quickly created an alternative: the Salzkammergut Trophy Individual. Cyclists can tackle the official routes from 1 July to 31 October and compare their own successes online with the records of other athletes.

Starting in March the seven routes can be cycled on again after the winter break. Training is always possible there from 9 am to 5 pm in March to October, from 8 am to 6 pm in April to September, and from 7 am to 7 pm in May to August. All routes are very well signposted and run along public roads, forest roads or biking trails. Route blockages may be necessary from time to time due to weather damage, wood or construction work. Check Up a few hours in advance if the route of choice is available.

Conquering the Salzkammergut Trophy routes directly from the hotel

Some of the starts and checkpoints of the Salzkammergut Trophy Individual – Checkpoint 24 – have since August been located directly at the chalet village AlpenParks Hagan Lodge. You can directly access routes A and E from there. You can pick up the transponder for time measurement at any issuing point after successful online registration. Hotel guests of the active resorts AlpenParks Hagan Lodge can have their Salzkammergut Trophy number waiting on their room upon arrival on request.
