Hike to the Tristkogel & Hochtorsee in Saalbach-Hinterglemm

28.07.2026

The hike starts at the large, free parking lot at the head of the valley in Lengau, right at the very end of the Glemmtal Valley. From here, the trail begins with a leisurely walk toward the Lindlingalm and the high-rope climbing park. If you’d like to skip the first few meters, take the valley-end train: During the summer season, it runs hourly to the Lindlingalm starting at 9:30 a.m. On foot, you can reach the Lindlingalm, which serves food and drinks, in about 20 to 30 minutes.

Right next to the Lindlingalm is one of the highlights for families: Europe’s largest high-rope park, featuring over 200 climbing stations spread across approximately 8 kilometers.

From the Lindlingalm, follow the forest road first toward the Ossmanalm and then continue following the signs for “Tristkogel.” At about 1,580 m, you’ll reach the Mitersaal—from here on, the trail gets considerably steeper. The entire route is well-marked and signposted. The trail now climbs steadily uphill toward the Saaljoch. Once you reach the top, keep left toward Tristkogel & Hochtorsee. After just a few minutes, you’ll reach the fork where the ascent to the summit begins.

Caution at this key section: The direct ascent to the Tristkogel is suitable only for experienced hikers with mountain experience. There are several exposed, very steep sections—sure-footedness and a head for heights are essential. Alternatively, the Tristkogel can be climbed from the back via the standard route. This route is significantly longer but also much easier.

The trail continues toward Hochtorsee. Just a few more meters of elevation gain, and then this beautiful mountain lake, at around 2,000 meters, will lie before you. Nestled between Tristkogel and Gamshag, it’s usually wonderfully peaceful, even on beautiful summer days.

The return trip follows the same route—over the Saaljoch, past the Ossmanalm, and back to the Lindlingalm in Lengau.
