Hike to the Schneebergkreuz in Mühlbach
You start at the parking lot at the Karbachalmbahn in Mühlbach am Hochkönig. There are countless free parking spaces available here. Then hike up to the left at the valley station towards the Karbachalm. The path leads through the forest and offers wonderful views of the Hochkönig, the Mandlwände and the village of Mühlbach. After a good hour, you have reached the Karbachalm or the mountain station of the cable car. The popular "Toni's Almspielplatz" is also located up here.
We follow the signs and continue in the direction of Schneebergkreuz. After another hour, you will reach the Schneeberg (there is also a summit cross here) and if you continue walking for another 10 minutes, you will reach the Schneebergkreuz at 1,938m. From here you have a phenomenal view of the surrounding mountains. After a short refreshment stop, it's back down again.
Tip: At the Karbachalmbahn mountain station, you can hire a mountain cart for EUR 25 per person and whizz down to the valley. With the Hochkönig Card you get a discount on the mountain cart. You receive the Hochkönig Card as an overnight guest at AlpenParks Hotel & Apartment Hochkönig. The resort is just a 2-minute drive from the Karbachalmbahn valley station.
Facts:
1,035 vertical meters from the valley station
Ascent: 2.5-3 hours
If you want to take it easier, you can of course also take the cable car up and hike the last ~330 meters in altitude.
