Hike to the Maurerkogel in Zell am See
From AlpenParks Hotel & Apartment Central Zell am See you can take the bus to the Schmittenhöhebahn valley station. Tip: With the Zell am See-Kaprun Sommercard, public transport and the cable cars are included free of charge.
The gondola takes you up to 1,968 m to the highest point of the Schmittenhöhe.
Then it's downhill from the Elisabeth Chapel towards Kettingtörl. At the Kettingalm (only open in winter), turn left and walk along the Hahnkopf lift. Shortly before the lift hut, you will see the hiking signs to the left in the direction of the "Pinzgauer Spazierweg".
It goes through a small forest and then you quickly reach the fork in the path to the Maurerkogel, also known as Kesselscharte. From here, the ascent to the summit is fairly flat. During the ascent, you pass many small moorland lakes. You can also enjoy the view of the surrounding mountains, including the Kitzsteinhorn glacier.
After 1.5 - 2 hours, you reach the summit 'Maurerkogel' at 2,074 m. Once at the top, you are rewarded with a fantastic panorama of the Hohe Tauern, the Wilder Kaiser and the northern limestone Alps.
A wonderful, easy hike. (also suitable for families with children)
