Hike to the Löbbensee lake in East Tyrol

11.09.2023

From our accommodation, the AlpenParks Hotel & Apartment Matrei, it is only a 15-minute drive to the starting point, the Mateier Tauernhaus. We set off in the direction of "Badener Hütte/Wildenkogel". We follow the Tauernbach stream, cross a bridge and then turn right into the forest.

The partly very steep path leads past rushing waterfalls. Above the forest, the trail then leads through shrubs to the Lackenboden. The Lackenboden is a kind of pit below the Löbbensee lake. It then climbs steeply again and a short section of the path is secured with ropes.

After a good 1.5 - 2 hours, you have reached the beautiful Löbbensee lake at 2,226m.

Tip: If you are still fit enough, you can continue for another 2 hours and then reach the Wildensee lake + the Wildenkogel summit cross at 3,021m. Sure-footedness & mountain experience required!
