Hike to the Gämskragen summit in Niedernsill
We start our hiking tour at the Niedernsill village square. We follow the village road towards the church and walk straight ahead. At the next fork in the road, you can turn left into Mühlbachtal (e.g. Schaunbergalm) or right into Rattensbachtal. We keep right towards Rattensbachtal. Shortly afterwards we come to another small crossroads, here we also continue right along the Rattensbachweg.
Now we follow the beautiful forest path for approx. 9.5 kilometers. The first 2/3 are the steeper part of the route. At the last junction, we turn left towards Samer Grund- und Hochalm. We hike up to the Stefflscharte (2,033 m) and enjoy a short break. Now we continue on to the summit (another 330 meters in altitude). We hike up the hiking trail to the right of the fence for approx. 30 minutes.
At the summit at 2,362 m, you have a breathtaking panoramic view. There is also a wooden bench with a table next to the summit cross for a leisurely snack. Incidentally, the Gamskrägen summit cross is the largest in Central Europe. The return route is the same.
Tip: From the Stefflscharte, you have the option of heading left up to the Scheibenhöhe summit (20-30 minutes).
Facts:
- Ascent time: 4 to 5 hours
- Altitude difference: 1,560m
