Hike along the Alexander Enzinger Trail

04.08.2022

The starting point of the hike is the Klammsee in Kaprun. Ideally, you should take the bus to the Klammsee (free with the Zell am See-Kaprun Sommercard), but there are also some free parking spaces on site.

Cross the bridge right next to the parking lot and walk along the left side of the Klammsee. Shortly before the end of the lake, the path branches off to the left, from here we follow the signposts "Jetzbachastensteig". Above the Schneckenreith snack station, the trail winds its way across the alpine pastures. The path soon leads into the forest, which is very steep in places. After a good 2 hours you have reached the Alpengasthof Glocknerblick.

Then continue behind the inn in the direction of Dreiwallnerhöhe. Another 30 minutes and around 200 meters in altitude later you reach the summit cross of the Dreiwallnerhöhe at 1,859m. The hiking trail now continues towards Schoppachhöhe. Here the path becomes very steep again, but it is well worth the effort.

During the hike, you are always rewarded with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. At Schoppachhöhe 2,069m, there is a small cross to commemorate the burning of the witches.

The rest of the way to the Langwied/Kitzsteinhorn station now follows a beautiful high-altitude trail. However, you should be sure-footed and have a head for heights here! Once you arrive at Langwied/Häuslalm, you can continue along the trail towards the Alpincenter.

For the leisurely "descent" you can take the Panoramabahn (can be used free of charge with the Zell am See-Kaprun Sommercard). Then take the bus back to the village.

Facts:

  • Altitude difference: approx. 1,380m
  • Walking time (Klammsee - Langwied): 4.5-5 hours
  • Sure-footedness and a head for heights for the high-altitude trail!
