From Niedernsill to the Zirmkogel

After a hearty breakfast at AlpenParks Hotel & Apartment Orgler Kaprun, we set off. You drive to the Hochprack parking lot in Niedernsill. A limited number of parking spaces are available here. (Tip: start early enough!)

You can hike along the forest road at the barrier or take the shortcut which goes up to the left at the parking lot (small wooden ladder over the fence). Now the hiking trail leads through the forest for a while and you cross the forest road again and again. After a good hour you reach the "Steinbachriedel" junction at 1,950m.

Here you have the option of hiking left towards Hochkogel/Bürglhütte/Saalbach or right towards Schmittenhöhe. If you want to get to the Zirmkogel, you have to follow the tracks and markings on the "Riedel" straight ahead. A few easy trail markings can be found here. After a few minutes, you will reach a hiking sign indicating the way to the Zirmkogel. Now follow the grassy south-west ridge up to the summit at 2,215m. Once at the top, you have a breathtaking view.

Return along the same route.
