Panoramic Hike on the Hochkönig: Riedingtal and Alpine Pastures

The starting point is the Arthurhaus in Mühlbach am Hochkönig, at 1,502 meters above sea level. Parking is available right there, but there is a fee—however, anyone who spends at least €20 at the Arthurhaus or the Schweizerhütte will have 10 hours of parking time credited to their chip. Simply have the chip validated at the point of purchase. Even more convenient: With the HochkönigCard, which guests of AlpenParks Hochkönig and AlpenParks Wildbach Lodge receive free of charge, you can ride the hiking bus directly to the Arthurhaus at no cost—making the search for parking completely unnecessary.

Right next to the Schweizerhütte, hiking signs point the way. If you like, you can take a look at the alpacas grazing right next to it beforehand.

From there, the trail first heads to the Windraucheggalm and then continues into the Riedingtal valley. The valley is known for its waterfalls—it’s worth taking a short detour to see them. After that, the trail gets a bit steeper for a short stretch: a 150-meter climb up to the Molteraualm, which is open to the public. Right next to it is the Brandstätthütte—so there are two options for a break with a view of the Hochkönig massif.

If you’d rather take a detour instead of retracing your steps: Continue via the Koppalm, through the Barbaraschlucht, and past the Rupertistollen on the Erzweg back to the Arthurhaus. The Erzweg is a themed trail dedicated to the region’s mining history—with information stations along the route. 

Good to know: All you need is a good pair of shoes; you don't need to be particularly sure-footed. The tour is also well-suited for families.
