Snowshoe hike to the Geierkogel in Viehhofen
After a hearty breakfast at AlpenParks Hotel & Apartment Sonnleiten in Saalbach, we set off and drive to Viehhofen (12 minutes by car from Hotel Sonnleiten). We turn left directly into the village center and drive straight up the road, then cross a bridge on the right and continue for about 350 meters until we reach a large parking lot on the left after the bridge. We can leave the car here and start the tour.
Just to the left of the road, you can already see the ascent tracks towards the forest. We walk along the tracks until we quickly reach the Viehhofen ski run. We then cross the main road twice and hike past a few huts before entering the dense forest. Shortly before the summit, the slope becomes steeper again and after a good 1.5 - 2 hours we reach our destination, the Geierkogel at 1,853m. There is a magnificent view over the Hohe Tauern to the Steinberge mountains around Leogang and Saalfelden. You then return along the same route.
Back at the Hotel & Apartment Sonnleiten, we enjoy a delicious coffee and cake on the sun terrace of the hotel's own restaurant. You can also use the heated outdoor pool right next to the hotel to rejuvenate. The perfect way to end the day!
