Saalachtaler Höhenweg
Autumn hike on the Saalachtaler Höhenweg
Take the Asitzbahn in Leogang up to the mountain station. From here, the hike begins on a beautiful forest path towards the "Großer Asitz" summit. From here, the path continues to the left and you leave the "ski resort civilization". You then walk along the beautiful mountain ridge and quickly reach the Scharbergkogel and Geierkogel peaks at 1,855m.
After the Geierkogel, you walk downhill for a while, past a hut and through a fairytale forest. Again and again you can enjoy magnificent views of the Hohe Tauern including the Kitzsteinhorn. Next you reach the fourth summit "Lochalmköpfl" at 1,807m.
After a few minutes, you reach a crossroads where you can either hike straight towards Biberg or turn off towards the Sausteige summit. The second option involves a slight ascent, but it is well worth the effort. From the summit at 1,912m you have a wonderful view of Lake Zell.
You could then descend to the Biberg in the direction of Saalfelden and take the summer toboggan run all the way down and then return by bus (or you could park a second car here). Or you can simply hike the panorama trail back to the Asitzbahn mountain station.
Facts: (if you also hike back to the mountain station)
