Circular hike on the high-altitude promenade in Zell am See
The tour starts at the Schmittenhöhebahn/TrassXpress valley station in Zell am See. There are plenty of parking spaces available here. (it is best to park at P1 or P2) Above parking lot 1, hike up to the right and past the Pension Magarete and the Hotel Schwebebahn. Now follow the signs in the direction of "Sonnalm".
You will soon reach the Berghotel Jaga-Alm at approx. 1,200 meters. Continue to the Sonnalm and after a few hairpin bends you will reach the Schmiedhofalm. The route now climbs steeply uphill for a few more bends until you reach the Sonnkogel. The Schrambachkopf summit cross is located behind the Sonnkogel restaurant. Here you have a wonderful view of Lake Zell.
The adventure trail now continues along the high-altitude promenade to Salersbachköpfl and the zellamseeXpress mountain station. Then it goes past the Hochzelleralm until you finally reach the Berghotel Schmittenhöhe, known in winter as the "SchnapsHans-Bar" with the Sissi Chapel. Here you have the option of taking the Schmittenhöhebahn cable car back to the starting point. However, the circular hiking trail now leads downhill and past the Breiteckalm. You now walk past two reservoirs and the Hirschkogel Express and then turn left onto the forest path towards Zell am See. This path then ends in the Schmittengraben and you have to walk another 15 minutes towards the parking lot.
