Panoramic circular hike in Viehhofen

12.06.2023

You can either start the tour directly from the village square or park your car a little further up on the Hecherbergweg (just before the torrent dam). In both cases, simply follow the signs for the "Panorama-Rundweg".

The majority of the route runs along a forest road through the forest. There are always breathtaking views over Viehhofen and the surrounding mountains. At a crossroads, you then have the choice of following the panoramic circular trail or turning off onto the Saalachtaler Höhenweg and continuing on. The latter option makes the tour a little longer and adds a few meters in altitude, but it is definitely worth it. You will also pass a summit cross.

If you opt for option 2, continue the hike in the direction of Lochalm and then turn left onto the hiking trail just before the alpine pasture. Walk along this path for around 15 minutes until you reach another crossroads. At this point, you have a choice: you can climb the Lochalmköpfl summit cross on the right-hand side, while the Geierkogel awaits on the left. We opted for the first option and hike towards Lochalmköpfl at 1,807m.

After a short rest, we make our way back to the crossroads. From here, we simply follow the signs to "Hecherhütte" or "Viehhofen". The path leads us through beautiful forests again, and a few benches invite us to pause and enjoy nature. With a bit of luck, you might even spot a marmot or two.

Afterwards, the Hecherhütte invites you to take a break. Here you can enjoy delicious specialties such as Kaiserschmarrn, yeast dumplings, Wiener Schnitzel or Kasnockn'n. To get back to the car, simply walk down the road, a leisurely route of around 30 minutes. The Viehhofen village square is around 45 minutes' walk away.

Facts:
Walking time for the entire tour incl. Lochalmköpfl: approx. 4 - 4.5 hours
