Mountaincart Altaussee: A great day trip on mountain Loser

At Loser Legends, you take the Panoramabahn up to the Loser and then race back down nine kilometers of asphalt into the valley—an experience for families, groups, and anyone who wants to experience the mountain in a different way. Mountaincart riding at Loser – Here’s how it works
The process is wonderfully straightforward: First, the Panoramabahn cable car takes you up the mountain at a leisurely pace, offering sweeping views across the entire Ausseerland region. At the top station, you’ll find your Mountaincart, a helmet, and a brief safety briefing. Then it’s time to release the brake and go.
Next comes “the 9K”: nine kilometers of asphalt, 750 meters of elevation gain, and fourteen hairpin turns. You set your own pace—from a leisurely roll to zipping through the curves. On average, the descent takes about 30 minutes; plan on about 1.5 hours for the entire outing, including the ride up the mountain, photos, and the briefing.
Safe and family-friendly
The track and procedures have been inspected by TÜV SÜD and rated as easy. Each cart is equipped with hydraulic disc brakes, and helmets and a safety briefing are provided. The solid asphalt remains easy to drive on even when wet and dries quickly—so a gray day is no reason to cancel your outing. Operations are suspended only in the event of thunderstorms, heavy rain, or storms.
Who is the Mountaincart ride suitable for?
- Rider (ages 15 and up): rides alone.
- Rookie (ages 10–14, 140 cm and taller): gets their own cart; an accompanying adult rides along.
- Under 10 years old: may ride on the lap of an accompanying adult.
Please bring photo ID (age restrictions apply), closed-toe shoes, and, ideally, sunglasses.

No reservation is necessary—just stop by, buy a ticket on site (cash or card), and get going. Only for groups of 10 or more is it recommended to register briefly in advance via email.

Loser Legends is located at the valley station of the Loser Bergbahnen in Altaussee—just about 100 meters from the AlpenParks Hagan Lodge chalet village and thus easily accessible on foot.
- The exact address is: Lichtersberg 84, 8992 Altaussee
- On foot from the Hagan Lodge: The valley station and the lodge are both on Lichtersberg—it’s just a few minutes’ walk away.
- By car: About 1¼ hours from Salzburg, 1¾ hours from Linz, 2 hours from Graz, and 2¾ hours from Munich. Parking is free right at the valley station.
- By train & bus: Take the train to Bad Aussee, then take the bus via Altaussee to the Loser valley station. Guests of the Hagan Lodge can also be picked up at the Bad Aussee train station upon request (between 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.).
