Autumn hike 3 Brothers Crossing
From our accommodation at AlpenParks Hotel & Apartment Orgler Kaprun, we take the car in the direction of Bruck an der Großglocknerstraße. We continue towards Taxenbach and at the Heimhofer sawmill we turn right and head towards "Feriendorf Oberreit". Then continue along Güterstraße until you reach the barrier. There are several parking facilities here.
At the beginning, we walk along a forest road for about 50 minutes (you can also take the shortcuts through the forest here) until we come to a junction "Heubergalm/Erlhofalm". We take the left-hand option and follow the path towards the Erlhofalm. From the alpine pasture, the trail then crosses a stream and alpine meadows and later climbs quite steeply.
Once you have reached the top of the saddle, head left up to the first summit, the Breitkopf at 2,220m (beware: very exposed sections!) and right to the Schaflkopf at 2,264m.
We really only climb the Breitkopf for a short summit photo and then hike straight on to the Schaflkopf. Magnificent views of the Steinernes Meer, Zeller See and Hohe Tauern reward the ascent. After a short rest, we continue towards Stolzkopf. It goes downhill again and then along the ridge, again you should be free from giddiness and sure-footed. Shortly before Stolzkopf, the trail climbs again.
From here, the descent towards the Heubergalm begins again. Once you reach the hut, continue walking for a few more minutes until you reach the crossroads with the "Erholfalm/Heubergalm" hiking sign. From here, we return to the car via the forest road.
A very rewarding tour with great views. Surefootedness and a head for heights are absolutely essential!
