CROSS COUNTRY SKIING IN OSTTIROL
EAST TYROLEAN POWDER SNOW
Feeling the sparkling power of deceleration
Skating or classic – the jury is still out on that question. What all cross-country skiing fans have in common, however, is a love for exercise in the fresh air, the white vastness, and the sun that warms the spirits. Cross-country skiers get their money’s worth all winter long: the region offers nearly 400 kilometres of trails. There are also many skating lanes and a unique natural backdrop.

A Garden of Eden for runs
The AlpenParks Montana Matrei is the optimal starting point for cross-country skiing in East Tyrol. The Dorfloipe trail, for example, runs right past the gates of the holiday accommodation. Many other lanes are open to sport enthusiasts from November, some even from October. Circle the Matreier Tauernhaus in just less than five kilometres. The 2.6-km-long Panoramaloipe run starting in Hinterbichl, on the other hand, leads you to the Panoramatafel in Sölden and the Herz-Jesus-Kapelle chapel – unique mountain views included.
The Isel-Loipe, bringing you as far as the valley end in Toinig on the foot of the Venediger range, certainly is worth your while as well. The start is at the leisure centre “Gries” in Hinterbichl with only small inclines and gentle hills to overcome.
Cross-country skiing pros can tackle the tricky Bobojach trail, mastering 7.2 kilometres and 136 altitude metres. The start is at the leisure centre Prägraten. Highlights along the run: charming mountain farms, a very narrow canyon, romantic bridges and crisp downhills.
Cross-country skiing under the starry sky
Those who want to experience the magical winter world of East Tyrol at night will love the illuminated night trail from the leisure centre Prägraten to Unterfeld. The easy route encompasses 3.3 kilometres and 30 altitude metres and is open from 4 to 9 pm. Romantic hours under the starry sky are guaranteed.
Trans Dolomiti: the challenge for hardened skiers
A special adventure for cross-country skiers is the “Trans Dolomiti”. Athletes can explore the most beautiful spots of the cross-country skiing network between East Tyrol and the Dolomites in four to seven days. Around 100 kilometres are covered. The reward: unique moments between snow and ice and a wonderful feeling of freedom.
Culinary sensations in the evening
Small trails in close proximity or multi-hour adventures – tired cross-country skiers can look forward to culinary reinvigoration and relaxed hours in the evening. The AlpenParks Montana Matrei offers both with its modern rooms and studios and an exquisite mix of Tyrolean and Mediterranean cuisine.
