Discover the might of the Alps when hiking in the province of Salzburg
Picturesque Alpine chalets. Encounters with ibex and marmots. Dreamy views and 250 kilometres of well marked hiking paths.
Alpine magic awaits you during your hiking holidays in Austria.
The AlpenParks Maria Alm is located only a few minutes walk from the Natrunbahn. This will take you up to the summit in no time. But also down in the valley there are plenty of trails to discover - many of them start right at the front door of your hiking hotel on the Hochkönig.
A short walk of just two kilometers leads to the Chapel of Peace, which lies hidden in the forest above Maria Alm and exudes a special sense of tranquility. Another loop, just under 4 kilometers long, is the Panorama Trail, which also begins in the village center. Along this route, which also passes the pretty Gasteg Chapel, there are great views across to the Steinernes Meer and Maria Alm. You can also tackle the 6-kilometer golf course circuit from the center, as well as the 8-kilometer Natrun-Jufen circular trail, which leads up to the local mountain, the Natrun.
For those who have already explored the meadows and peaks around Maria Alm, Saalfelden and Leogang on a hiking vacation, the neighboring villages of Dienten and Mühlbach offer further idyllic spots. The necessary strength for the feet provide a total of 71 alpine pastures and huts, which are located on the slopes of the Hochkönig. From hearty Gröstl to sweet Kaiserschmarrn to modern, vegetarian and vegan dishes, everything is served here to strengthen tired hikers. Because: The next summit is calling!
Herbs have fascinated people since time immemorial - which is exactly why the herb hiking trail "Ach du Grüne Neune" was created. It is 107.6 kilometers long and leads in 6 stages around Maria Alm, Dienten and Mühlbach, as well as past 16 rustic mountain pastures. Unique views, the one or other summit victory and herbal knowledge are on top. If the entire trail is too demanding for you, you can also venture only the first stage: it starts directly in Maria Alm, is 18 kilometers long and takes about 7 hours.
The Königsweg, which leads in 4 stages from Maria Alm via Dienten and Mühlbach and finally back to Maria Alm, is also a delightful undertaking. Along the Hochkönig massif you will catch impressive views of the surrounding mountains, hike through the Steinerne Meer and over the Dientner Grasberge.
You also have the opportunity to walk a section of the 350-kilometer-long Salzburger Almenweg, which leads through the most beautiful regions of Salzburg. This long-distance hiking trail with its 31 stages is suitable for real mountain experts as well as for hobby hikers and families with children.
No matter where you are headed - after an active day of hiking, relaxation is the order of the day at your hiking hotel in Maria Alm at the foot of the Hochkönig. In the 4-star hotel, as well as in the holiday apartments, you can expect modern comfort, culinary delights and plenty of space and time to review your experiences.
