Special sights

Particularly worth seeing:
the holiday region of Ausseerland

Places of interest as far as the eye can see

In the Austrian Salzkammergut nature plays a key role – mountains and lakes, Alpine meadows and forests are not just worth seeing, they are also worth experiencing. There are treasures right in the middle of this fascinating natural and cultural landscape – churches and small castles, quaint small towns and evidence of the salt mining.

Altaussee Salzwelten

The white gold of the Alps, the salt, was mined underground in Altausee for many centuries. Today ‘Salzbergwerk Altaussee’ is the largest active salt mine in Austria. The numerous traditions and customs of the miners are evidence of the lively existence which this cultural possession and commodity, salt, provided.

Discover Salzwelten Altausee and take yourself into the depths of the mountain during your holiday. Here you’ll find treasure chambers and the glow of St. Barbara’s Chapel. Fabulous guided tours for children open up this underground world to the little ones.
