Customs – tradition – modern events in a holiday in Austria
Ausseerland is rich in custom and tradition. During your holiday you can learn about the ‘Ausseer Flinserl’ pageant, the Narcissus Queen, or enjoy a reading by Hollywood star, Klaus Maria Brandauer, who hails from Altaussee.
The ‘Narzissenfest’ in May is an annual expression of joie de vivre. The wild growing narcissus, which exude a truly sensual fragrance on the Alpine meadows, are fashioned into shapes - work which takes days on end - and the end result can be seen as part of the procession. Choosing the ‘Narcissus Queen’ is the highpoint of the festival.
In summer there are numerous cultural activities to tempt you to come to Ausseerland. Klaus Maria Brandauer, native of Altausee, actor and director, always stages plays which are out of the ordinary in Altaussee and gives readings about picturesque places.
In autumn there is Altaussee ‘Kirtag’ and in January, right up until carnival time, there are processions, with the ‘Ausseer Flinserl’ procession being an absolute ‘must’ for a holiday in Aussee.
